Work on a new Tekken was officially announced by series director Katsuhiro Harada in an interview with CVG magazine. It was also mentioned by the director that he would like to work on a cross series fighting game, possibly leading to a cross over with another popular fighting game. This was later confirmed that a similar game to Street Fighter X Tekken would be released with the name Tekken X Street Fighter (pronounced Tekken "Cross" Street Fighter). This game along with vise versa Street Fighter X Tekken will be the sequels to PlayStation 2 RPG Namco X Capcom which crosses the universes of Namco and Capcom's into one game creating a roster from both franchises.

Tekken X Street Fighter was announced on July 24, 2010 at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con along with Street Fighter X Tekken. The gameplay of Tekken X Street Fighter will be featuring the same 3D fighting game engine of the Tekken franchise as opposed to Tekken X Street Fighter. Street Fighter X Tekken will feature the 2D and ink-styled art of Street Fighter IV.

[edit] Features

It is likely that we will see a return of the core Tekken characters (Paul, Jack, Heihachi, Yoshimitsu, etc) and core Street Fighter characters (Ken, Sagat, Gen, Blanka, etc.)

  • The games will be released in two different formats and titles. One is using the Street Fighter engine (Street Fighter X Tekken) and the other using the Tekken engine (Tekken X Street Fighter). It is assumed that a similar roster of characters and other features will be available in both games.
  • A tag mode seems to be available based on the Street Fighter X Tekken gameplay.
  • As of recently Devil Jin and Evil Ryu will most likely appear in Tekken X Street Fighter since they are on the official poster.
  • Katsuhiro Harada who is developing Tekken X Street Fighter did reveal some concepts at GamesCom 2010 such as a prototype model of Ryu, with the gi of Tekken's Paul Phoenix in white. He stated that the team has yet to finish the model as details and lighting were not completed.
