Release Date 2011
Arcade System Taito Type X2

Work on a new Tekken was officially announced by series director Katsuhiro Harada in an interview with CVG magazine. It was also mentioned by the director that he would like to work on a cross series fighting game, possibly leading to a cross over of Tekken with other popular fighting games (Many guessed it would cross over with Sega's Virtra Fighter because there similarity in graphics and gameplay.) This was later confirmed to be Street Fighter X Tekken.

This game, along with the vice versa Tekken X Street Fighter, will be the sequels to PlayStation 2 RPG Namco X Capcom.

Further information was released at Capcom's "Street Fighter IV and Beyond" panel when Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono had his panel interrupted in a staged event by Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada to present the release of "Street Fighter X Tekken" a game that would contain characters from both Namco and Capcom's flagship fighting titles.

A trailer was released at the panel that showed Kazuya fighting Street Fighter's Ryu with tag team elements shown such as when Chun-Li helps Ryu and Nina Williams assists Kazuya. On the Tekken X Street Fighter poster, Ryu and Jin Kazama are seen together along with their evil ego, Evil Ryu and Devil Jin.

[edit] Features

It is likely that we will see a return of the core Tekken characters (Paul, Jack, Heihachi, Yoshimitsu, etc) and core Street fighter characters (Ken, Sagat, Gen, Blanka, etc.)

  • The games will be released in two different formats, one is using the Street Fighter engine and the other using the Tekken engine. It is assumed that a similar roster of characters will be available in both games.
  • Some of tag system seems to be available, are similar to the Street Fighter EX3 this is shown in the gameplay video where Nina is tagged in, performs a throw/hold on Ryu, then Kazuya uses a Lightning Screw Uppercut.
  • Street Fighter and Tekken character's traditional move sets have been ported.
  • The gameplay video of Street Fighter X Tekken shows that it will have the Street fighter IV 2D.5 gameplay. Although not officially announced it is likely that Tekken X Street Fighter will use the Tekken 6 full 3D gameplay.
  • Devil's wings are seen in the debut trailer, so it is possible he will appear in his first Tekken game since Tekken Tag Tournament. Street Fighter creator Yoshinori Ono also stated that he wanted Jun Kazama in his version of the game.
  • As of recently Devil Jin and Evil Ryu will most likely appear in Namco's version of Tekken X Street Fighter since they are on the official poster.
  • Katsuhiro Harada, the creator of the Tekken series, revealed some concepts at GamesCom 2010 such as a prototype model of Ryu with the gi of Paul Phoenix in white. He stated that the team has yet to finish the model as details and lighting were not completed.
