Type J is a character in Death by Degrees. Type J is a robot that was created by Doctor Boskonovitch and taken by Lukas Hayes as a part of his plans for revenge against the people that shut him down. Type J is encountered at the Solitaria Penitentiary. It is named "Type J" because the letter "J" is inscribed on its abdomen. Type J chases Lukas Hayes in the Opening Movie (Type J is not seen, but it can be heard running after Lukas and roaring, and its tracking system is shown watching Lukas). Lukas manages to escape, but only to be ambushed by Enrique Ortega and a bunch of armed men. Type J is next seen watching Nina Williams, who is the game's protagonist, and Anna Williams, who is one of the game's antagonists, fight. He jumps down onto the old bridge that they are fighting on, and it predictably falls through it. Anna goes down with it, and she falls on Lukas Hayes (who she knocked through the bridge eariler, but he got caught in ropes that saved his life). They fall onto sandbags. Anna apparently flees, as she is not seen afterwards. Lukas becomes Type J's new target. Nina must guide Lukas through the tunnels and away from Type J, which she successfully does. Nina is later attacked by Type J. Nina must defeat it. Later, Alan Smithee shows up and activates the device on one side of the room. It is radiation that weakens Type J if it comes in contacdt with it. After Nina defeats it, it is hit with a huge blast of the radiation that almost destroys it. Next, Alan and Nina go to rescue Lukas from Enrique, but they can't get into the room that they are in. Suddenly, Type J comes back to life and smashes through the doors. Enrique is knocked out of the room, and Lukas runs away. Nina confronts Enrique, and Enrique says taht she should worry about Type J instead. He suggests that they be partners, which Nina refuses to do. Enrique and Nina fight, while the Type J robot runs around in random directions. If Nina or Enrique come in contact with it, it will hurt them. Eventually, during the fight, Type J will shut down and move no more. Type J is left at the Solitaria Penitentiary.
